Universal life
force, channeled
through the hands
Reiki is a gentle, hands-on practice from early-1900s Japan, built on a simple idea: a calm hand and a quiet mind can support the body's own path back to balance.
A subtle energy, a settled body
Rei, "universal," and ki, "life force" — the same vital energy known as qi or prana in neighboring traditions. When its flow feels smooth, the body and mind tend toward ease; a practitioner's hands simply support that flow. Reiki is offered as a complementary relaxation practice — never a replacement for medical care.
A century-old lineage, three teachers
Every Western Reiki lineage traces back through the same three names.
The Five Reiki Precepts
- Just for today, do not anger.
- Just for today, do not worry.
- Just for today, be grateful.
- Just for today, honor your work.
- Just for today, be kind to others.
"Just for today" — a single day's effort, repeated, rather than a demand for permanent perfection.
The Four Sacred Symbols
Traditionally given hand-to-hand by a teacher, not from a book. Their names and roles below — the glyphs themselves stay within the teaching lineage, as is customary.
The 24-Point Healing Treatment
Twelve positions on the front and head, twelve on the back — a full-body sequence, typically 3–5 minutes per position. A general relaxation framework, not a diagnostic procedure.
Front & Head (1–12)
- Eyes — palms cupped over closed eyes
- Temples — sides of the head
- Back of head — base of skull
- Throat — light hover, no pressure
- Heart center — upper chest
- Solar plexus — upper abdomen
- Lower abdomen — navel and below
- Right hip — pelvic area
- Left hip — pelvic area
- Right knee
- Left knee
- Feet — tops of both feet
Back (13–24)
- Neck — upper shoulders
- Upper back — between shoulder blades
- Mid back — lower ribs
- Lower back — kidney level
- Sacrum — base of spine
- Right shoulder blade
- Left shoulder blade
- Right hip — from the back
- Left hip — from the back
- Backs of knees
- Calves
- Soles of feet
The Seven Chakras
Drawn from the yogic tradition — a reflective framework many practitioners layer onto a Reiki treatment, one center at a time, from base to crown.

What to expect
A first session usually runs 60–90 minutes and follows the traditional 24-point sequence, fully clothed, in a quiet room. Tell your practitioner about any areas of sensitivity beforehand.
- Sessions are complementary relaxation practice — not a substitute for medical care.
- Wear comfortable, loose clothing.
- Arrive a few minutes early to settle in.
- Water is offered afterward — many feel calm or lightly drowsy.
